Okay, technically they’re not FAQs because no one asked them of me. I just thought this would be a good way for you, the public, to meet me, the guy who wants you to buy his stuff. So, here we go…
Who Are You Anyway?
See the “About Me” page.
Are You A Published Author?
I’ve got a small collection of short stories on Amazon.com titled A Bump in the Night. It’s in the Kindle format and was self published. Other than that no, I’m not published anywhere. Although, it is my ultimate goal.
So Why Should I Pay Attention to You/Read Your Site?
Because I know that deep down inside, you’re a good person and you would love to see me make it big. Plus, I’ve gotta start somewhere, so it might as well be here.
Have You Won Any Awards For Your Work?
No. The only accolade I’ve received is being shortlisted for the 2008 Aeon Award for Speculative Fiction. It’s a contest that is sponsored by the Irish magazine Albedo. The good folks at that magazine thought that my short story A Bump in the Night was good enough to grace the shortlist, and I can’t thank them enough for the honor.
Do You Have Any Hobbies?
This one I can answer “yes” to. Aside from my writing I’ve been known to hike, camp, play the guitar, mountain bike and build the occasional scale model. I also enjoy tasting foreign beers, although that doesn’t happen as much as it used to or as much as I’d like.
You’ve Got All Those Hobbies, Are You Good At Any Of Them?
I was a relatively good mountain biker. I raced for a season in the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship and consistently placed in the top five of my age group. It had been a childhood dream to race bicycles (since the first time I saw a broadcast of the Tour de France at age 9) and I finally got the chance when I was twenty-seven. Unfortunately, racing was very expensive, monetarily and time-wise, and I wasn’t good enough to win the money back.
What About Your Favorite Authors?
Where should I begin? Right know I’m most interested in what Cherie Priest is doing with her Clockwork Century. Ernest Hemingway is also a favorite because I hate writing dialogue and he opened my mind after I read A Clean, Well-Lighted Place. My all-time favorite novel is To Kill A Mockingbird. My all-time favorite series is Stephen King’s Dark Tower world, which includes any novel of his that mentions that world. Michael Connelly also makes my list because I love how Harry Bosch loves L.A. Other than that, I pretty much love everything I read: Dean Koontz, Dan Simmons, Brian Keene, Jack London, Jules Verne, Naomi Novik, William Hope Hodgson, Rudyard Kipling, Algernon Blackwood, J.K. Rowling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Matthew Reilly, Stephen Leacock, Cormac McCarthy, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Richard Matheson, Geoffrey Chaucer, Stephen Crane, Michael and Jeff Shaara, Larry McMurtry, Richard Russo, Pete Hamill, Richard Laymon, Patrick O’Brian, Robert McCammon, Brian Jacques, etc….
Any Favorite Movies Or Actors?
Number one movies for me are Rudy and Knute Rockne: All American. No, I don’t cry when The Gipper dies but, when Rudy gets accepted into UND and then again when he runs onto the field…Oh, man. I’m crying right now. Any movie that involves one person or a small group of people trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world is also an instant favorite. Especially I Am Legend, 28 Days Later, Terminator: Salvation, Resident Evil, etc…That being said I’ll also enjoy anything in black and white. As for actors, Jimmy Stewart is my hands down favorite. Other than him I’ll watch anything with Audrey Hepburn or Will Smith, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
How About Music?
It’s easier to say what I don’t listen to: Rap. Old school Hip-Hop is okay, though. Anything else is awesome. Favorites include: The Weepies; Louis Armstrong; John Frusciante; A Tribe Called Quest; Digible Planets; RHCP; Weezer; The Clash; The Pogues; John Mayer; B.B. King; Rory Gallagher; Hendrix; Ray Lamontagne; Rilo Kiley; Alannis Morrisette; Nirvana; Bob Marley; the list goes on….
Wow, You’ve Got a Lot of Manly-Man Stuff Going On. Doesn’t Anything Scare You?
Yes. Sasquatch, heights and spiders. In that order.
Anything Else We Should Know About You?
I like to laugh and make people laugh; I ♥ nachos; I ♥ New Orleans; I ♥ Seattle; I ♥ cows; Win or lose, nothing beats Notre Dame Football; I’ve seen Notre Dame play in South Bend and I have a piece of wood from the bench I sat on; I’m rough on cell phones; I’m even rougher on clothes; I only wear Levi’s or Docker’s pants and shorts; I like wearing ugly button-up shirts that don’t match my shorts or pants; I suffer from clinical depression; I sleep under a comforter, even in the summer; I got my first iPod in 2009; I’m a PC gamer; I have two tattoos; I have an addictive personality (past addictions include: Tic-Tacs, Juicy Fruit gum, Cafe du Monde coffee and chicory, Fruity Pebbles and bacon); I’m a cat person; I’m going bald and when I let my hair grow out I look like George Jefferson
